One more year, one more birthday celebration. This one marks the halfway point through another decade, with my last milestone during lockdown in 2021. Another loop around the sun, and I’m still feeling full of fun. Yep, I’m going to forget the first part of my age and focus on the ‘five’. I’m still quite playful at heart, something that my child of single digits loves, until such a time comes when he may find my childlike spirit embarrassing. May such a time never come!

Yes, I’m being glib. Why not? Life is always full of laughter, then tears, then more laughter and so on. For my half-decade milestone birthday I celebrated with friends and family, with birthday lunch and coffee, drinks after work and then a fabulous feast for dinner, trying out a new Thai restaurant in Belfast. I was spoiled rotten with all the prezzies, mainly jewellery from my friends and my lovely hubby, and a cute amethyst geode from my sweet little son.

The highlight of the evening, undoubtedly, was the dramatic appearance of the little dude’s wobbly tooth flying onto the table during dinner. Nothing to do with the meal, of course, as it had been loose for days. The tooth became an unintended additional present for me, in exchange for a pound coin, naturally.

We finished off the evening with some keto cake that I made with almond flour and sweetened with banana and honey, then topped with whipped cream using glucose and locust bean gum. Yum. This has been a great start to my half-decade milestone, and I’m happy to be starting it at a much healthier weight than last year, minus the pounds on the scale and minus my insulin resistance too. I’ll comment more on that in another intermittent fasting and keto diet blog post.
